The Defensive Driving Instructor Course: Your Ticket To A New Career

You have a gift for teaching, and you’ve been trying to apply that gift in a classroom environment for more years than you care to remember.  But bored and unmotivated students, a school administration more concerned with end-of–the–year test scores than with teaching children how to think, pushy parents and fellow teachers only interested in job security have driven you to your limits.

You want to keep teaching, however, so why not consider becoming a driver’s education teacher?  You know going in that your students will be motivated, and you will probably get paid as well for a lot less grief.  But first you’ll need to pass a defensive driving instructor course, and meet some other requirements.  What are they?

What You’ll Need To Do To Make The Change
First, of course, you must have a valid driver’s license, and you must also have no criminal record.

You will also have to pay up to a hundred dollars to take and the driving instructor exam required by the Department of Transportation in your state.  In some states you need to become licensed as a driving instructor, and can only do so after taking a certain number of courses on driver instruction.

You cannot have ever been involved in a road rage incident nor have a history of uncontrolled anger.  You will have to be willing to arrange your schedule to the needs of your students, which can mean giving up lots of weekends sand evenings.  But that will be up to the employer who hires you to teach when you nave passed the defensive driving instructor course.

You must also have your own car, which you may be required to use for your student’s lessons.

What You’ll Get For Your Efforts
The benefits of passing a defensive driving instructor course are numerous.  You will be working with a variety of students every day, both students preparing to get their licenses, and those who will later follow you in pursuing a defensive driving instructor course.

You will no longer have to face a classroom full of students and can interact with your driving students on a one-to-one basis.  The driving skills you teach them will be as important as any others they ever learn, and they will be able to put them to use almost immediately.

When you have prepared for your new career by passing your defensive driving instructor course, you can start really enjoying your chosen profession, maybe for the very first time!
