The Defensive Driver Education Program: You Can Never Know Enough

Ask any teenager approaching his or her sixteenth birthday what the perfect gift would be, and the answer is almost certainly. “A car!”   Getting a driver’s license is one of the most anticipated rites of passage in any person’s life, and being able to drive without having Mom or Dad sitting in the passenger seat as they did during the learner’s permit phase is  makes the sense of freedom overwhelming.

But with that degree of freedom comes an equal degree of responsibility.  Even the smallest lapse of concentration or carelessness on a driver’s part can lead to serious harm, both to the car’s occupants and to the car itself.  Even worse, it can bring serious harm to other people or vehicles.  So teenagers who learn to drive defensively from the time they first get behind the wheel will save themselves and their families a great deal of worry.

And defensive driver education programs which can go a long way toward turning even new drivers into great ones will also benefit older family members with years of driving experience.  While experienced drivers may be more comfortable when they run into unexpected road or traffic conditions, defensive driver education programs can help them stay safe by teaching them driving techniques to avoid problems cause by the bad drivers with whom we all share the roads.
